Lets Talk About It W. Author Cassietta Jefferson

Here talking with New Author Cassietta Jefferson and the road it took her to get to where she is  today, her work & inspiration...

1.What inspired you to become an author? How old were you?

I would always write in my journals and short stories just because. Then, about 12 years ago, I read a book by Francis Ray called Heart of the Falcon and was completely inspired. I started putting some short stories together and invited a friend to read it. She loved it and told me that I should finish it and publish it. Doubt and fear took over and I put it on the shelf and pursued other dreams.

About 10 years later, I finished it but I was still sitting on the finished product. I was in church one Sunday and the minister said what gift has God given you that you aren't using? I’ve always written, but that was the thing that propelled me forward.
2.Can you describe the feeling you had when you first saw your book published?
I don’t think I can in words. The best way that I can describe it is full! It’s like when a woman gives birth to a baby. Or better yet, when that baby graduates from high school. It was a moment of complete pride and just utter satisfaction.
3.How did you come up with the idea for your story{Be Still & Know}?? {Which by the way I am rereading now}

I really just kind of looked at my own family dynamic and embellished. The Reigns family is loosely based on my own family. My two sisters, seven brothers, and my parents, have all somehow found their way into the book.
I get ideas from things that have happened to me or around me. The idea for Be Still & Know came from a combination of actual situations and my very active imagination.
4.What message are you trying to portray in your Books?
You know, I cover so many topics from promiscuity to forgiveness, and I think what it really comes down to is that I really just want to encourage people. I want my readers to get that above all Jesus loves them and with him all things are possible.
5.What Genre would you consider your work?
I sort of classify my work as being contemporary Christian fiction. It’s carries the message of Christ but it covers topics that Christians struggle with in a very real and respectful way.
6.What advice would you give to an aspiring author?
I would advise aspiring authors to never be controlled by fear and doubt. Those 10 years that my book sat on the shelf, I was completely paralyzed by fear. I would think, what if people don’t like it, what if nobody buys it. As artists, we’re very protective of our work, but I would caution other authors to just go for it. Believe in yourself and your work and do it!
7.Are there any new projects we should be looking out for? If so can we get a little synopsis?
There are a couple of new projects in the works. I just released Timing is Everything, which is just a fun little short love story. I wanted to tell this story for a while, but never had the time to really get it out. I thought that the novella platform was the perfect way to share this one. Timing is Everything is available on amazon.com and on my website www.cassiettajefferson.org

I also have a book called Shades of Brown that will be released on August 1. This book is about four women who are all different, but they find commonalities in their differences. Through all the challenges that they face, they become each other’s support system. Shades of brown is a little different from what I normally write. It’s a bit edgier and touches on some topics that are close to home but I’m excited about it. I hope everyone can relate to some part of it and may it will help someone going through these challenges.

I’ve also started the much anticipated follow up to Be Still & Know, so I’m hoping that it’s out in November (perhaps before). There is a part two, and if you’ve read Be Still & Know, you know there are a few ways that this can go. I don’t want to reveal too much about it, but I hope my readers will be pleased.

You all know how much of a book worm I am, its nothing like a good read to get you nice & relaxed. Well after reading & now rereading this book I can not wait to read part two of  "Be Still & Know" the anticipation is suspenseful.

I highly recommend both books to you, as well as any &  everything that Cassietta is working on. As an artist you know when another artist puts their heart & soul into a project & I know Cassietta has done so. Lets support her, I promise you wont be disappointed.

Until our next chat, stay beautiful & sweet...

XOXO,
