New Music, Trendsetters, & Innovators

Well as always Loreal and I were having a girls night out. We were having such a good time too. We ended up bumping into Jamir (as I knew him at the time). Later on I learned that he was a artist and went by the Name of Prince Jamir. Well anyway before I give anymore details away. I decided to sit and do a interview with Jamir seeing that he had a great swag and powerful singing Voice...I knew from the start we were going to have a great time.

Q.  Ashley- How was music apart of your life growing up?
A.  Jamir - Music has always been in my life, from church as a kid. My older sister was the pianist for the choir, music rubbed off on me early. We listened to lots of music growing up; my Dad had a large vinyl collection, and my eldest brother was a DJ. That's when my interest for music started early on  in my life.

Q.  Ashley - What is your first memory of you singing? How old were you?
A.  Jamir - The first memory of me singing I was in my house. My brother since he was a DJ, had all this cool stuff  especially this one karaoke machine that I was not suppose to touch. Every time he'd leave the house since I couldn't go with him i'd play around with it. I’d take my moms old cassettes and record over them with his microphone which I was also forbidden to touch. Actually hearing what my voice sounded like on the tape recorder… was the start. I was 7 years old and by 13 I was performing.

Q.  Ashley – How would you describe your music? What are the main themes or topics for your songs?
A.  Jamir - I would describe my music as evolved R&B a voice movement I call Hip Hop Soul. My music is Soul, because I'm a soul singer. The themes vary but It's about messages in music that go deeper than surface but still has a refreshing sound, and that's fun. For me as a writer there will always be a new expression and topic for me to get into. I wrote about Love and relationships, it’s basically what ever I'm feeling that's true that will connect with all who hear.

Q.  Ashley- How has your music evolved since you first started performing?
A.  Jamir - I have gotten to know myself better as an artist. My first album My Offering was autobiographical about me, but without the fans I wouldn't be where I am. So this New EP is about my fans because they give me so much. Evolution in the passion for music and the process has made me a better quality artist. I have evolved in having a better reign on my brand and the business behind the music as well.

Q.  Ashley - Do you have a favorite song that you have recorded? & why?
A.  Jamir - Well from Celestial City there is the song “Real Good Thang” it’s the first single. It’s upbeat, fun & makes you feel good. The energy and hook are so infectious. The Horns, the Afro break beat percussion drums, make for cool live elements, myself and Venor (my production partner) played everything ourselves.

Q.  Ashley - If you had the opportunity to change something about the music industry, what would it be??
A.  Jamir - I'm not trying to reinvent the wheel. However I think that just my presence alone here is already affecting change in this digital Era. I'm an independent artist, with no conventional record deal. I don't have to do or be anything other than Prince Jamir & do what I do best sing, write , dance. I'm doing it! So I am the change I want the world to see and let the world see in me. I want to continue to create not just put anything out.

Q.  Ashley- What is one of the wildest stories from a performance to date?
A.  Jamir - Wow, hmm. It had to be the Knitting factory in NYC. It was so many different people. I took off my shirt it was wild. Panties were being thrown on stage. I was picking up the panties and throwing them back too. That was fun. Ladies gave it up that night; it was the wildest performance to date.

Q.  Ashley - As an artist how would you define success??
A.  Jamir- I define success as being healthy, balanced, being happy, making a difference while taking care of my family. Making HISTORY is big talk, but impacting just one life with a song is success to me. #Real Rap.

Q.  Ashley - Just for fun fill in the blanks.
A.  Music is life. Music makes me feel smooth. Without Music, I would be lost. I write the songs for everybody to sing along to. Support the music because its the purist form of commitment.

 Q.  Ashley - Thinking back did anyone in your family have any musical talents that inspired you
A.  Jamir - My dad the guitar, my sister the piano, my brother the saxophone; I come from a family of musicians.

Q.  Ashley - What does your family think of you as an artist?
A.  Jamir - They just let me be. I'm the middle child so I always did my own thing. They love me, I hope they're proud of me. They are my first line of support system.

Q.  Ashley - Do you have any other interest or talents outside of music?
A.  Jamir - i like to swim and drive Old school Cars. As well as create companies.

Q.  Ashley - So tell me about you and T.I.'s Clothing Line AKOO.. I've seen you looking so good in some of their looks how did that come about?
A.  Jamir - Yes absolutely a great opportunity. Big Shout to Team AKOO, they've dressed me for my album listening at Trump Towers in a really classy jacket. We've had a great relationship ever since. Akoo is an acronym which stands for A. King Of Oneself, & what I like about it is
-It's a mens sports wear line about being a young man of excellence, a leader and royalty.
For me, as the Prince of Hip Hop Soul it's like I get the chance to promote my music along as dress in something that stands in harmony with my brand. Loyalty, family, community and excellence while looking O so fresh!

Q.  Ashley - So who've you worked with in Fashion Industry other than T.I's AKOO Clothing Brand? Or is this Trend Setting thing just the beginning for you?
A.  Jamir - I worked with Alexander Allen, he's an awesome Image Director he did the Cover for my new single. He got me this dope leather jacket fitted, and yet decided to use a simple rope belt as oppose to a gaudy belt as something simple & creative. I just read an article he did on Vogue.com just the other day as a matter of fact, he's in high demand. He has many other major clients.

Q.  Ashley - Wow that's awesome! You have this fashion thing going on it seems.. What are you working on now that the fans should look out for?
A.  Jamir - I just got back from LA finished my new EP! Working on shooting a few music videos! We've also been filming a Docu Series, that's been fun. I've been away from the stage for a while working on music now I'm ready to get back and perform for my fans again! Looking forward to the shows!

Q.  Ashley - Ok I'm going to be looking forward to that! Thank You for a sharing with us, any last things you want the fans to know.
