LETS TALK ABOUT IT: L.I.F.E {Living In A Fragmented Existence}
Lets Talk About It
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hey Diva's & Gents, we are here with Charita N. Whitaker, first time Author getting in her head about her new book L.I.F.E. Discussing her inspiration behind the book.
Q. How long have you been writing poetry??
A.Does roses are red violets are blue count (laughing)…..(getting more serious) but the first real poem I wrote was in the 7th grade. It was an assignment for school; we had to write about what we wanted to be for Halloween. I didn't know what I wanted to be for Halloween, so I wrote a poem called costume mix up
Q. How did you come up with the idea to write of book of poetry?
A.I was in class (summer school to be exact) I was 17 years old. And I had this brilliant idea for a poem about letters between a girlfriend and boyfriend. So I wrote the first letter in class and ran home to show my mom. She didn't like it she hated it. She didn't like the message it was going to send. I was trying to explain the message I was trying to send without giving the whole poem away. I went to my room and finished the poem. I brought it back to her and she loved it. And that’s when I told her my idea to write a book of poems for teens.
Q.Was this the first actual poem you wrote for the book?
A.The first poem I wrote that’s in the book was when I was 14. I didn't know then that it was for a book. I didn't get the idea for the book till I was 17.
Q. Do you have a favorite poem in the book? If so which one? and why?
A.I don’t know if I can choose just one I actually have a few favorites. The first would have to be "A Story to Tell", which was also an assignment my senior year of high school. I never handed it in because I actually had writers block. It took me two years before I could complete that poem. And it turned out better then I could ever imagine, so I know it was a reason I couldn't finish it at first.
The other would have to be "High". I think this is one of my best poems. And it only took me a matter of minutes to write it. I saw a special on TV that inspired me to come up with the concept for the poem.
And the last one is the "The Self-Conception of Me". I also wrote this one in class. I was in college just starting my junior year. Because I struggled with my self image and self esteem for a while this touched home with me. This poem helped me open up my eyes to realize what was really important.
Q. What are your hopes for the book?
A.I can honestly say I just want this book to be able to touch the youth of the world. To be able to help them in their everyday struggle in whatever that may be. If this book helps just one person then my job is done, but I hope it helps more than one.
Q.What does the Title of the book mean L.I.F.E?
A.Well that’s the title that my mom and I both came up with, and I decided to make it into an acronym. Sometimes growing up as kids we think life is perfect, it’s a fairy tale and bad things can’t happen to us. However, that isn't the truth. So, basically the title means that this world is no where near perfect. And we need to learn how to continue to exist and live on through the broken times.
Q.When will the book L.I.F.E be available to public? And where can we find it?
A.It is available right now on LuLu.com. And hopefully by the end of July if not before; it will be available on Amazon, eBay, and hopefully Barnes and Noble. It will also be available as an e book, which will be available sometime in July as well. But everyone can feel free to purchase it ar lulu.com

So guys check out the book, if you have a teen or if you don't have a teen. Even though it is mostly geared towards teens, I had the pleasure of reading some of the book and I think it can reach any age group. Because we all have had self esteem issues at one point or another. We have all gotten our hearts broken, and so on. It is a great read to get to the bottom of it.
