WHEN WE GRACED VOGUE
Beverly Johnson coined the term, or should I say introduced the term "black is beautiful" to the fashion world when she began modeling for Glamour.
And then in 1974, gracing the cover of Vogue magazine becoming the first African American Model to do so.
Beverly didn't stop there either, she also became the first African American to grace french magazine Elle as well.
Beverly career choice had drastically changed from aspiring to be a lawyer to becoming one of the most noted African American Models of all time. And not Stopping there but also using her modeling career to become a actress, business women, and a advocate for social issues.
Due to her hard work she has paved the way for Models such as Naomi Campbell, Iman, and Tyra Banks just to name a few.
All I want to say is Thanks Beverly for never giving up!! I am sure this is what she would have to say just like she has said it before:
“I see the inspiration of black women being lifted up all over when they look at me and that’s a super feeling.” -1975
